I am a young trade unionist. I became a trade unionist because I was curious. I went to a meeting to see what the St. Kitts Nevis Trades and labour union is about and I joined. After joining it was quick rise up the ranks. I am smart and the spaces were empty. However, it fits right into the idea of care, people and community. Today as we celebrate labour day. let me share this fun fact. In 1889, the Marxist International Socialist Congress passed a resolution calling for a large international demonstration demanding that workers not be forced to work more than 8 hours a day. It became an annual event after that, and May 1 was declared as Labour Day.1
