I was challenged to follow the teacher’s prep in her book. As a trained educator I believe I should be able to follow the teacher from the student’s note.
When you can’t you should be concerned. Unless the child’s handwriting is really bad but the child can understand her own code.
She has knowledge but she is not able to organize the knowledge in a comprehensive way.
She reads, well enough. She is social enough and she is willing. What I must say is she will match my effort. I am a beast when it comes to books and she will follow me. Lol a does see her cut up her eyes but she will follow me.
I am giving her the technology for research.
But she doesn’t understand knowledge context. Knowledge context means … what is the right then for this …. The internet gives you all kinda information but what is relevant to our topic ….
In her class they are not assigned text books ordinarily. So I went and asked. There was a lil … resistance but I got them eventually.
Text books are great for framing knowledge.
She is a reader/ writer learner. ( I think )
I have to let her explore… her preferences … (This takes time)
So I gave her the computer and a textbook and told her to choose one and look for the answers. She chose the laptop. The answers were not wrong but they were not all in context with the assignment.
At this level the teacher wants exactly what she tells you.
So she did the assignment. Again I couldn’t follow. So I said let’s read the book together.
I opted for both of us to read it alternatively. Then discuss the content.
We read and she is learning to use the book as an anchor text. In a text book the context is already aligned.
When teachers can’t teach well this is what intelligent children do. They read the text book and teach themselves.
*** Please note I am not saying her teachers can’t teach ***
We are experimenting with learning so, a tool to learn knowledge and context for knowledge is text books.
