Nearly two-thirds of 10-year-olds are estimated to be unable to read and understand a simple text. Without urgent action, this global learning crisis will become a generational catastrophe.
However, if we allow them to read about themselves in stories of PLAY and CULTURE they will recognize the vocabulary easier. Maybe using characters who look like them. Maybe their nostalgia will encourage them to read more.
Maybe if they read out their culture a recognition of their situations will empower them to decode it easier.
