Being a classroom teacher is a job. That causes you to care. You care about the potential of your students, you care about meeting your deliverables, ( testing, grading, administrative recording, contacting parents, connecting with students, motivating students and participating in the schools activities.)However, to be a A+ teacher or even a B- requires several unpaid hours of service that we have normalised as the price of production. However, healthy boundaries are needed to have a sustainable teaching career. As humans especially women we all know we should have them–in order to achieve work/life balance, cope with toxic people, and enjoy rewarding relationships with partners, friends, and family. But what do ‘healthy boundaries’ really mean–and how can we successfully express our needs, say ‘no,’ and be assertive without offending others?
