One Educator said education is not preparation for life education is life.
So, without time for lessons what are we teaching in class room?
Yesterday I had an experience in classroom well it was in the office but an extension of classroom.
I just couldn’t believe “ what I was hearing about myself from a student.” I was severely hurtful. So I opted for the instinctive amour up for this attack and listen. Listening allows your to get inside the speakers head and empathize or at least understand the attack. After a comprehensive report of my failing by the student to what one would say is an influential audience. I said ok I concede to your interpretation of me as a failed educator. Where is the evidence of your effort? where is the work you made without me that demonstrates your competence, grit and commitment to your education. Where are the projects? Where is the evidence that you showed up? I was not rewarding her characterization with bowed head or compliance. I was asking for her effort, evidence of her trial and failures evidence of her work. let me just state as much as I am liked I am not liked in and out of classroom. The mind set of not liking a teacher should not prevent you from showing up! You see Art unlike, English, Math and Geography requires rigor for skill development, time to practice and grit to keep going when it is not working. I will not do the work for you, I will teach and demand effort, grit and accountability because, As a contributing member to the world and an educator I know for sure
1.Subject content only makes sense in the context of life. For example math is understood best when you use money to teach
2.The act of learning is the responsibility of the student.
3.If you don’t know find out- that is your job
4.Ask for help
5.Come back again and ask for help, ask other people.
6.The system is tooled with resources that if you make a genuine effort to show up, understand and do the work it will get done
7. According to the UNESCO education frame work for action teachers are merely “Means of Implementation”, implying that teachers/teaching personnel are merely seen as an “input” into the education system. This is NOT SO!
8.Teachers are one of the most influential and powerful forces for equity, access and quality in education and key to sustainable global development #4. So, I will show up as a teacher leader every day.
